The Organization
Calcutta Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology (CMIG) is a voluntary organization dedicated to taking care of elderly people. Founded in 1988 this is the only organization in Eastern India where Research is linked with welfare activities. In addition to Research, Training and Publications, we run many service projects and have nearly 1000 aged beneficiaries scattered  all over the city. Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, HelpAge International, Department for International Development (DFID) are some of our funding agencies Of late we have constructed a Geriatric Care Centre on 4 cottas of land acquired through public donation. We have also started the first phase of work – a Geriatric Clinic with Physiotherapy Unit. But in order to fill in the void in our society created by the absence of any health care center exclusively for the elderly. CMIG aspires to set up a Geriatric Care Centre which would provide holistic care

(Social, Medical, Behavioural) to the downtrodden elderly. CMIG has a team of renowned physicians, nurse, physiotherapists, trained Geriatric Animators and consultant Geriatrician.

CMIG undertakes training programs as collaborating Agency of National Institute of Social Defence(NISD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. For details, please go through the Training Program sections.

We   need support either in cash or kind (machineries, setting up eye unit etc.) from the well wishers to stand by us in cherishing the Herculean task . Having explored that no Government Support would be made available at this phase of our project, we can resort to public donation only.

All donations are exempted under 80G of I.T. act. CMIG accepts Foreign Donation Under FCRA Clearance.
