The new law "Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act"  was promulgated in December 2007 to ensure well being of parents and senior citizens in a holistic manner. In order to facilitate effective implementation of various provisions of this Act, Department of Social Welfare, Government of West Bengal has set up a committee. CMIG had taken active role in formulation of Draft Model Rules and also its implementations.

8th Asia / Oceania Regional Congress of Gerontology and Geriatrics, held in Beijing, 22 - 25 Oct, 2007

The theme of this Congress was 'Ageing of Diversity in Asia - Oceania : Health, participation, Security and Sharing". In this Congress CMIG organised a Symposium entitled "Poverty alleviation, independence and healthy ageing of elderly women, role of voluntary organisation".

This symposium was chaired by Dr. Indrani Chakravarty, the Secretary, CMIG and participants were the academic staff of CMIG.
