Geriatric Care Giver Course (ULB)

Pujali Municipality is an Urban Local Body(ULB) in the district of South 24parganas. It has 15 wards scattered by the river Ganges. CMIG conducted a six months Geriatric Care Giver Course at this Municipality with funding from DFID(KUSP) from 18th of December, 2006 to 30th June, 2007.

The participants were all women aged in between 25 to 40 years. There were as many as 50 participants of which a sizable section belonged to the minority community. These participants were mostly housewives and with educational qualification ranging from eight standard to higher secondary.

The objective was to train a group of Geriatric Care Giver who might work within the community and give basic support to the aged population of ULB.

The second objective was to bring in a taste of Urban Medical Facilities through these participants. Thus this Semi-Rural Community may enjoy the fruits of Urban Medical intervention.

The training was a great success and there was a popular demand for replication and continuation of the program.

The CMIG expects to conduct such program in other Urban Local Bodies in and around the city of Kolkata.
